     There are so many unique important Facts about Beloved Lebanon – God’s Paradise, that I wish to share with the World: Religious, Historical, Geographical-Demographical, Touristic and other Facts, that reflect and prove the unique magnificent culture and great Lebanese heritage that comes from an ancient civilization.  For Thousands of years, Lebanon had given the world Cultural example, contributing thru the Lebanese Diaspera, to every land we landed on.  So I am pleased to share them with you, in no order of priority.


Holy Religious Facts:

  1. 1.  The name LEBANON appears 71 times in the Old Testament.  link

 

  1. 2.  The name CEDAR (Lebanon’s tree) appears 71 times too in the Old Testament.

 

  1. 3.  The name TYRE (today named Sour, in South of Lebanon) appears 59 times too in the Old Testament.

 

  1. 4.  The name SIDON (today Saida, South of Lebanon) appears 49 times too in the Old Testament.

 

  1. 5.  The name BYBLOS (today named: Jbeil) appears 75 times too in the Old Testament.

 

  1. 6.  The name PHOENICIA (Original Lebanese) appears 5 times too in the Old Testament. 

 

  1. 7.  According to Christianity as mentioned in the Holy Bible that our Lord Jesus Christ visited south of Lebanon (Tyre & Sidon), and he performed Miracles of healings and preached to the crowds.  Also there is still a debate about the wedding of Qana and Lord Christ first Miracle of turning water into wine, whether it happened in Qana in Nazareth-Galil or in Qana-Galil South Lebanon.

 

  1. 8.  King Solomon built GOD’S TEMPLE using Lebanon’s Cedar trees with help of Phoenician (the original Lebanese) Engineers, as the famous Cedars of Lebanon were valued as building materials in the ancient world.

 

  1. 9.  People say that the cedars were planted by God’s own hands (This is why they’re called “The Cedars of God”, and this is why Lebanon is called “God’s Country on Earth.”

The highest cross built on top of mountain…. Lebanon’s Maronite Christians inaugurate towering, lighted cross as sign of unity

BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanon’s Maronite Christian Church inaugurated a towering, lighted cross Monday as a sign of unity among the world’s people.

The cross soars more than 240 feet (73 meters) into the air and has 1,800 spotlights and is located in the mountain village of Qanat Bekish, according to the Rev. Farid Doumit, a Maronite priest in the village.

Building the cross took about two years and cost some US$1.5 million, which mainly came from donations from the Maronite Church, which is in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church and under the authority of the pope, and a French Catholic group. The cross stands near a church that dates to 1898.

Monday’s inauguration came on the eve of the feast of the Congregation of Holy Cross.

Lebanon is a pluralistic society with 18 different religious sects and a parliament split equally between Christians and Muslims. Lebanon is also the only Arab country with a Christian head of state.

    percentage in all the Arab countries).

 

  1. 12.              All Muslims honor and Love Mother Mary so much.  The government of Lebanon initiated in 2010 to Celebrate Mother Mary day as a National Holiday on March 25th, of every year for Christians and Muslims together.  As well the Holy Site of Mother Mary in Harissa is visited greatly by Muslims from Lebanon and other countries.

Historical Facts:

  1. 1.  Byblos City in Lebanon (named Jbeil in Arabic) is the oldest, continuously living city in the world dating to 7000 B.C., and it has been inhabited since Neolithic times.

The Holy Bible is thus called as it refers to the City of Byblos!!!.  …….link

 

  1. 2.  Beirut was destroyed and rebuilt 7 times (this is why it’s compared to The Phoenix).  Beirut is the mother of all religions.

 

  1. 3.  Lebanon’s name has been around for 4,000 yrs non- stop (it’s the oldest country/ nation’s name in the world!).

 

  1. 4.  Lebanon, the country, was occupied by over 17 countries:
    Egyptians-Hittites-Assyrians-Babylonians-Persians-Alexander the greats Army- the Roman Empire Byzantine- the Arabian Peninsula-The Crusaders- the Ottoman Empire- Britain-France- Israel- Syria.

  1. 6.  One of the most important ancient Roman law schools was founded in Berytus, as it is the First Law University in the world was built in Downtown Beirut, but then it was destroyed in 555a.d.

 

  1. 7.  The Ancient Lebanese Phoenicians (The original People of Lebanon):

* They invented the Alphabet at Cadmos of Byblos city in Lebanon), and this alphabet which consisted of twenty-two consonants, provided the foundation of the alphabet used today. 

 

* They built the 1st boat, and they were the first to sail ever!.

* Theyreached America long before Christopher Columbus  did.

* Phoenician cities included Byblos, Baalbek and Tyre. These ancient cities are inscribed on the World Heritage List.

* They were seafarers and traders. They were the first to use the Pole North Star as a point of reference for navigation. It is known that the Phoenicians traded as far away as Spain and Britain.

* They were famous for producing glass, purple dye and cedar wood.  As they discovered the Purple Dye, used by the rich and royalty, from the murex shellfish.  Purple dye was very expensive as it took many shellfish (murex) to produce a small amount of dye. 

Salt, which evaporated from sea water, was used by the Phoenicians to preserve tuna which they sold around the Mediterranean.

*They initiated Trade and colonized the far corners of the Mediterranean from Aegean Islands, Cyprus, Rhodes, Sardinia, Sicily and Carthage (Tunisia) including the Atlantic coast and North Africa.

  1. 8.  Tyre is thought to be one of the oldest urban areas in the world.
    1. 9.  Jezebel, the wife of King Ahab of Israel, was a Princess of Sidon who became the Queen of Israel.


  1. 10.              The philosopher and mathematician, Zeno of Sidon (around 150 BC-70 BC), was born in the Phoenician city of Sidon.

 

  1. 11.              During the Islamic invasion in the early seventh century, the Christian sect that became the Maronite Church took refuge in the mountains.

 

  1. 12.              Lebanon was part of the Ottoman Empire for four hundred years.

  1. 3.  Lebanon is one of the most populated countries in its archeological sites, in the world!!!

  1. 3.  The Arabic name for Lebanon is Lubnan which means white – the colour of the Lebanese snow-covered mountains.

 

  1. 4.  Lebanon, in ancient Syriani Language is spelled: “Lubnan” which means God’s Heart, so we live in God’s Heart.
